Job DescriptionSummary of Position:

The Food Safety & Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the compliance of day-to-day sanitation, quality, and food safety standards, procedures, and policies.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Daily GMP inspections
  • Daily Inspections of Agriculture, and Harvesting Machine cleanliness
  • ATP swabs in Harvesting Area
  • Fill in wherever the packhouse, harvest or greenhouse needs extra sanitation
  • Maintain janitorial/ chemical inventory and reduce usage of disposable items where possible
  • Complete monthly debris checklists
  • Identify food safety hazards and work with managers to put control measures in place.
  • Know and apply all Food Safety, Quality, and Sanitation standards as set-out by the compliance team including proper use of cleaning chemicals, SSOPs and equipment maintenance
  • Responsible for making sure that all equipment is cleaned and sanitized at the end of the shift
  • Uses chemicals according to company guidelines and safe practices
  • Use of special protective equipment, such as glasses, gloves, and uniforms
  • Operation of hand and foot controls or repetitive hand and foot movement
  • Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Lift, push, pull, pick, or carry overhead a minimum of 25 lbs.
  • Bend, stoop, twist, walk, grasp, push and pull repeatedly 75% of the time
  • Knowledge of FS rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of SSOP, and SOP’s
  • Comfortable working with minimal supervision
Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 1 year of Food Safety or Quality experience preferred
Supervisory:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibility
Work Environment:

Greenhouse, 50%

  • The temperatures in the greenhouse very depending on the weather outside
  • Climate can range from hot and humid to cold depending on the location and time of year
  • PPE must be worn at all times

Harvest and Packhouse, 50%

  • The temperatures in the packhouse are between 34-38&degree; F to preserve product quality
  • PPE must be worn at all times
Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like.
  • Occasionally moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces.
  • Constantly remaining in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Constantly moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Occasionally adjusting or moving objects up to 20 pounds in all directions.
  • Constantly repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
